THE UNSUNG HERO!!
Today I will
let you know about a person from the Kaurava clan. What we have heard till date
are all the infamous deeds of this clan but i think this personality deserves some respect.
So today I
will be writing a short story about the third eldest brother of Kauravas –
VIKARNA
Vikarna was the third eldest son of
Dhritarastra[the king of Hastinapur] and Gandhari.
Vikarna’s favourite weapons were bow and arrow
and he was a very great warrior. He was the one from the Kauravas who actually
knew what Dharma is and everything that he practiced was Dharma.
Did you know he was the one from kauravas who
requested Duryodhana to give the part of their kingdom to the Pandavas that
belonged to them. He even warned Duryodhana that if he continues with his
harassment's with the Pandavas then one day every one of them would repent.
When the Pandavas lost the notorious dice game
they had to give their wife Draupadi to
kauravas. Dushasana the second eldest Kaurava then tried to disrobe her.Every
members present there like Bhishma,Drona,Drithrastra turned to be a mute
spectator and did nothing to save Draupadi.
Vikarna
was the only one who protested against that act. He questioned his brothers and
the courtiers whether this act was Dharma .His plea fell on deaf ears and you
all know the history.
Among the Kauravas only Vikarna was the one who was loved by the
Pandavas. In the great Mahabharata war
Vikarna fought very bravely. On the 13th day of the war when Vikarna
came face to face with Bhima.
Bhima was
very apprehensive to fight with Vikarna but Vikarna said that it was his duty or
Dharma to fight for his brother and if Bhima would not fight against him he
would kill him. Bhima who was not willing to fight against Vikarna had to fight
and in ensuing fierce battle Vikarna
died . For once the Pandavas were unhappy on the death of a Kaurava
Could
you relate Vikarna with a personality in Ramayan ?????? Oh yeah Kumbakarna ?????
Kumbakarna was also in this crossroad. He knew
his brother Ravana was wrong but he fought for him as it was his Dharma to be
beside his brother in trying times.
Hope you liked it. Let me
come up with another interesting character about whom you might not have heard of.
Until next Wednesday.
THANK YOU!
